Nairobi, Kenya Mission WRAP |
NAIROBI KENYA- 27 JUNE 2008
As my Kenya Airlines flight cuts through the African Sky, the one of the majestic peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro cuts through the Tanzanian clouds. This huge mountain speaks to two things--the creative power of God in these volcanic peaks and the obstacles that we face in our earthy journey. At the same time, traversing Kilimanjaro is just a small picture of the challenges that face East Africa in the coming years.

March 6-8th, 2007 David Wilkerson and his son Gary held a Renewing Your Passion for Christ Conference in Nairobi, Kenya. They brought a cry for reconciliation and a solemn word from the Lord about the future of this nation of 38 million in 12 tribal divisions. Thousands of pastors and leaders came from all over Kenya and neighboring countries to attend the conference. While many gave lip service to the word delivered, real change did not take place. Over the next 9 months every part of his word came to pass until the nation erupted in violence in December of 2007. |

As thousands were killed and hundreds of thousands were displaced from their homes, even some Teen Challenge staff lost everything in the wake of the escalating violence. Many of you prayed for Joseph Karanja in January as we shared his saga. He has moved back to the same neighborhood and ministers Jesus to the very people that burned him out of his home. His testimony has such favor, that we were able to walk the Mathare slums together. Mathare, home to more than half a million people of whom 60% are youths, is known to be one of the world's most congested, ugliest and harshest slums. |

Through World Challenge Missions, David and Gary Wilkerson are sponsoring feeding programs as well as partnering with Kenya Teen Challenge. As I walked the Mathare North slums with Steve (of Teen Challenge British Columbia) and Joseph, observing fearful merchants, machete wielding street thugs, addicts and aimless youth. People pointed as they said, " Mzungu" (white man). We saw young people smoking bhang (pronounced bahn-gee') sniffing glue and drinking changaa, a cheap moonshine distilled on the streets throughout North mathare (pronounced chahng-gahh'). . .
We also met-David Wilkerson Karanja, Joseph's son (pictured right). Joseph sees him as part of the new generation of leaders that God is raising up for the nation ... That is the contrast between aimless despair left and the hope offered by Jesus over or through their own Kilimanjaro. |

We visited some of the illegal changaa dens where we saw people drowning in the illegal "hooch" After getting pictures, I felt compelled to minister to them. God moved powerfully. Suddenly everyone in wanted prayer. As people began to commit their lives to jesus, demons began to manifest and we saw a wonderful time of ministry and deliverance. Even the owner repented and asked us to pray she cold find a new job so a she could close the bar.

We found the children waiting outside after "minister." The cameras were discarded because everyone was needed for prayer. |

The Lord opened doors for the choir to minister to 2,000 pastors at the Kenya Assemblies of God General Council as well as local churches. From the very bottom of society to the nation's elite, God used Teen Challenge as a testimony of God's grace. |

We truly enjoyed working with Kenya Missionaries, John & Annie Martin (left) again. Under their leadership Kenya Teen Challenge is moving forward powerfully. Last December Nathan (right) of Jesus Unlimited met with Jimmy Jack and Bro Wilkerson and I last year regarding Rock the Block. He is doing a powerful work in Mathare North slum. In God's timing, he was holding a crusade on the streets. He invited me to preach and bring the choir. It was a delight to work with Pastor Nathan (right) and see God moved on the street. |

Packed altars were a part of every church service as God used the Kenya TC Choir powerfully. |
On the street they just poured forward to trust in Jesus. ON Sunday pastor Nathan report that after altar follow up over 50 had attended Sunday church for the first time. |

Kenya has become a popular hub for international drug traffickers operating from the Far East, a new report says.
Heroin is the most trafficked drug through Kenya.
The International Narcotics Control Board (INCB reports it is brought in by air from South-West Asia with Europe as the final destination, This comes a year after the World Customs Organization reported that Kenya was a pivotal route for heroin traffickers from Afghanistan and Iran through Qatar.
The INCB study warns that heroin abuse is on the increase in Kenya, especially around the trafficking routes of Nairobi and Mombasa. The 2008 UN World Drug report warns that Kenya is among only 5 nations in the world with increasing Heroin Abuse. Two new Kenya reports confirm that school children as young as eleven years old are falling prey to drug abuse, and that alcohol abuse is at an all time high. |

PSALM 97: 5, 6 The hills melt like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.
As I reflect on the peak of mountain Kilimanjaro breaking through the clouds, it is clear that there are mountains for East Africa to face. Mountains of violence, addiction and poverty, but thank God for His Promise. Fly over the summit, go through, or demand that the mountain move out of the way, the key is in forgiveness and the Promise of God. I believe Kenya Teen Challenge is a part of that reconciliation process to move the mountain.
MARK 11: 22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. |
Join with is in prayer for the move of God in Kenya. As I ministered with Kenya Assemblies of God General Superintendent Rev. Peter Njiri in Nairobi, he shared despite the fact that most churches burned, were KAG -- and many of the people who suffered in the conflict were Kikuya. God has not called us to revenge, but restoration God will bring together the Kikuyu, Luya, Luo. Kamba, Kisii, Meru, Turkan, Pukot, Girama, Kalejin, and Massai tribes together by the sovereign move of HIS hand.

PARTNER
PRAYER
FOCUS |
1) Pray for the hundreds of young people who made commitments to Christ in meetings in Uganda and in Kenya .We are believing for lasting fruit.
2) Pray for our Upcoming Ministry time in Brockton as we have opportunity to minister to 600 Students for the combined Teen Challenge Centers of New England as they gather under the direction of Dr Rodney Hart.
3) Pray for workers for the Harvest ... we currently have invitations to start Teen Challenge in 43 nations. They are crying out for help. They need the power of God to meet a pressing social need.
We offer SPIRITUAL RESOURCES to meet the need.
MATTHEW 37-3 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38 Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
4) PRay for the financial needs of Fresh Start in Uganda. Bro Woodson shared that the cost of food has doubled this year as Uganda has begun to export large quantities of food to China. The cost of petrol has risen to $8.00 per gallon
